The chartered design team worked alongside the delivery team to provide a design and build solution. They successfully worked to an accelerated programme, finishing ahead of the required deadline and with no safety incidents.
Risks
There were various challenges to overcome with these works, one of the biggest being the time constraint. In order for the next stage of the project to proceed, the retaining wall had to be completed within six weeks. This required two teams to work extended hours.
Value engineering
To complete the raising of the ground level and protect the existing building, the retaining wall had to be constructed. This proved to be a complex design due to its location being directly underneath a 20m tall scaffold and adjacent to an existing building.

Grout injection for ground stabilisation
Partial demolition of existing structure
Adaptation of the 20m tall scaffold to facilitate construction
Pile mat construction
Construction of RC retaining wall.
